Blackstar: A tribute to David Bowie in pictures

I’ve always turned down requests to be the photographer of a music event. The thought of missing a precious moment, the alertness required for hours… That was until January 22nd, 2016.

When my friends at Trackage Scheme announced they were hosting a tribute to music legend, David Bowie, and that it was going to be a charity event where proceeds would go to the Puttinu Cares Foundation (a Maltese organisation that offers a holistic approach of care for families with children suffering from cancer), I had to cooperate. I’m so happy I did!

The event was a major success! People danced and sang along to Bowie’s songs, the Blackstar’s music videos were displayed on the TV screens, money was donated for a cause that supports families who went through what Bowie’s family must have gone through…

For me this wasn’t just a great event but the start of something – music event photography. Music has always been a big part of my life and capturing the way Bowie’s music brings so much emotion into people was electrifying. The shots just came to me instead of me anxiously trying to capture something. People were so animated, so alive… This was the first time I photographed a music event, and after this great experience I definitely want to give it another shot.

To the next one! Meanwhile, above are some of my favourite shots from Blackstar: A tribute to David Bowie (you can enlarge by clicking on the magnifying glass when you hover over the bottom right hand of the image).
